Shoes. Swimsuit. Sunscreen. Sleeping bag. There are just a few days before our first Infuse Core camp which means the packing list is becoming our best friend. As we gather each necessity into a pile that closely resembles Mt. Everest, the new challenge becomes stuffing it into a suitcase that only Mary Poppins’ could handle. But one shirt at a time a miracle occurs and everything on the list fits like the world’s strangest puzzle.
Next comes all the emotions associated with heading to camp. For some, they are ready from the moment they registered to see old friends, meet new ones, praise God, and experience all the adventures ahead. Others need some convincing to see past the nerves of not knowing anyone, being away from parents, or not seeing the bigger picture ahead.
The one thing we can guarantee for both those who are excited and anxious, is to lean on the Lord. An abundance of scripture encourages us to turn to God for peace and understanding when the unknown lies in front of us. Philippians 4:6-7 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Prayer is the one thing that can calm our hearts and prepare us to spend a week in relationship with others and God.
In this time of preparation we encourage our campers and parents to take a moment to slow down amidst the chaos to remember the purpose of all that we do. Put the nerves aside and get excited for a week of relationship and fun that will impact your life forever.
